Condition
Colours:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant with the yellows tending more towards ochre-yellow, tthe oranges on each side of the tree more to rust-red in the original. The catalogue illustration fails to convey the three dimensionality created by the artist's use of twigs and tree branches in the original.
Condition:
The work is in very good condition. The canvas is very slightly slack on the stretcher and there is some undulation from the weight of the media down the centre of the work. There are a few very light rub marks around the edges and some very minor and unobtrusive drying cracks to the upper right corner. A small rub mark is visible on close inspection above the lower right corner on the right extreme edge, and there is a small hairline surface crack beneath and another fine hairline crack to the white impasto just above the lower edge in the lower right quadrant. The lower left corner is very slightly rubbed. Upon close examination there a few isolated tiny breaks to peaks of impasto. No restoration is apparent under ultraviolet light.
