Condition

Colours: The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration, although the overall tonality is slightly lighter, tending more towards a gun metal grey. Condition: The work is in very good condition and is securely hinged to the backing board at all four corners and glued to the backing board at the centre of the top edge. The undulation and creasing throughout is inherent to the artist's working practice and is original. Artist's pinholes are visible to the top left and right corners. There are a number of predominantly short tears around the edges, probably caused by tension relating to the paper creasing: one to the left side of the bottom extreme edge, one to the lower part of the left extreme edge, two to the left side of the upper edge, one to the centre of the top edge, two to the right side of the top edge, a split with associated slight paper loss to the centre of the right edge, a small tear beneath, and two slightly larger tears to the lower part of the right edge (some visible in the catalogue illustration). There are pale spots of discolouration to the edges of the sheet, notably to the top and upper central parts of the left extreme edge (visible in the catalogue illustration), and to the top of the right extreme edge. These pale discolouration spots may be inherent to the artist's use of varied media (look like oxidisation caused by iron?). There is a small handling crease to the upper centre of the right extreme edge. A few superficial dust fibres are adgering to the crevices in the paper in places.
