Condition

Colours: The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration, although the overall tonality is slightly deeper, richer and warmer in the original: the orange to the left of the foreground umbrellas tends more towards bright red-orange, the whites more to pale lemon yellow, and the reds more to bright raspberry red mixed. The catalogue illustration fails to convey the three dimensional quality to the collage forming umbrellas. Condition: (i) The work is in very good condition. There are a few scattered faint and fine surface rubmarks to the exterior of the plexiglass, including a horizontal scratch to the top left quadrant. In raking light a number of light handling marks are visible. (ii) The work is in good condition. There is some light paper skinning beneath the map to the lower section of the work, original to the work's execution. The lower right corner of the plexiglass box has three linear splits: to the top of the box; to the right side and on each side of the screw. There are two small pieces of adhesive tape attached to the top part and lower part of the right side exterior edge. In raking light a few light rubmarks are visible towards the top of the left edge and there are several fine and unobtrusive scratches scattered to the exterior of the plexiglass.
