Catalogue Note
Chiparus' Yambo recalls the poses, costumes and props early modern dancers exploited in their Eastern-inspired dances. A photograph of Lisa Kresse from the early 1920s shows the German actress and dancer in a costume similar to the one Chiparus depicts, but with her fire props fully deployed for the photo.
