Catalogue Note
The photograph of Fowler and Tamara, a popular American dance duo who starred in the Folies Bergère, shows the influence of Ballets Russes design as translated for Paris cabarets and thés dansants. Fowler's close-fitting trousers reveal the same glimpses of flesh Chiparus' Alméria. The exuberant curves of the skirt frame the movement's source and emphasize the dynamism of the figure.
