painted in underglaze-blue and enamelled to the interior with a floral medallion encircled by floral strapwork divided by five Lanca characters, all within a Lanca band at the rim, the exterior similarly decorated, the base with a four-character Cai Hua Tang Zhi mark in iron-red

The mark Cai Hua Tang Zhi may be translated as 'Hall of Brilliant Colours', see G. Davison, The Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics, no.664, p.173, where the author notes that the mark was used during the reigns of the Qianlong and Jiaqing Emperors.
