Description

  • A Karabagh soumac carpet
  • approximately 9ft. 2in. by 7ft. 2in. (2.79 by 2.18m.)

Condition

Scattered abrasions and moth damage to surface, some with now faded restitching. A 12 x 10 inch rewoven area at the top (also faded) and a few smaller (1 x 1 inch) reweaves. Original selvages with some later overcasting. Macrame fringes upper end, lower end with warp fringes---some losses to fringes. The salmon red has faded such that it appears to be a chemical dye. Sound fabric and condition. Very unusual European-inspired design.
