woven to mark the ascension of Alexander III (r. 1881-1894) to the throne of Imperial Russia, and depicting him with his wife Maria Feodorovna.  Inscribed in Russian and German "H.I.H. Alexander III and H.I.H. Maria Feodorovna. 8th October 1881. Ordered by the purveyor I.D. Seet, Moscow"

Condition

Colors in reality are lighter and softer than in catalogue. Good 1/8" dense pile overall. 5in. by 1in. rewoven area in lower left border, slightly brighter color than original areas, as visible in catalogue. No losses to pile area of rug. Reselvaged, overcast sides. Original kilim end folded under and sewn with cloth tape sewn on reverse. Dense weave, robust handle, very good overall condition.
