Description
- A Tabriz carpet
- approximately 22ft. 4in. by 19ft. 4in. (6.80 by 5.89m.)
Condition
Color: slightly softer overall than it appears in catalogue illustration; field is less red and border is lighter olive/jade green with abrash to slate blue at one end.
Pile: generally good, dense 1/8 inch overall with some areas of vertical warp wear low to knotheads and warp ties peeking through.
Two stepped repaired slits at the corners of the blue-border end of the carpet; running from the end of the carpet through the borders to turn along the edge of the field with one side running up approx. 15 inches and the other approx. 30 inches. These slits were probably made to allow the carpet to lie flat and to lessen the bowing out at this end of the carpet.
Ends: with partial original flatweave finishes and knotted fringes, uneven with losses and edge of pile low to knotheads however no loss to pile area of carpet.
Sides: partial original selvages with later overcasting and some fraying, sides curling under due to the density of the weave.
Colors on surface have faded as the reverse and knot bases show more saturated color.
Scattered spot stains and surface dirt---should enhance with thorough cleaning.
Dense, robust weave; sound fabric and good overall condition.
