  • A Senna carpet
  • approximately 372 by 206cm., 12ft. 2in. by 6ft. 9in.
with an inscription panel, the inscription reading: “farmayesh-e sarkar-e ‘ali muqarrab al-khaqan sharaf al-mulk adama allah iqbalahu al-‘ali. mobarak bada”  (Commissioned by His High Excellency, the one close to the king Sharaf al-Mulk, may God make his exalted fortune eternal.  May it be blessed.)
The inscription in the corners, a repetition of: “mobarak bada” (May it be blessed)

Catalogue Note

One ‘Ali Akbar Khan is listed as having received the title Sharaf al-Mulk by Nasir al-Din Shah before 1300 (AD 1882-3); the inscription may refer to him, ref. Muhammad Hasan Khan I’timad al-Saltanah, al-Ma’athir wa’l-Athar, edited by I. Afshar and published as Volume I of Chehel sal tarikh-e Iran dar dawreh-ye padshahi-ye Nasir al-Din Shah, Tehran, 1363 sh. p. 315.
