- A Fereghan carpet
- approximately 628 by 314cm., 20ft. 7in. by 10ft. 4in.
with an inscription panel reading: “hasb al-farmayesh-e aqa-ye mirza hedayat na’ib-e janab-e mustawfi al-mamalik fi-sana 1282 ‘amal-e haji muhammad jawshqani” (By the order of Mr Mirza Hedayat deputy to His Excellency Mustawfi al-Mamalik in the year 1282 (AD 1865-6). Catalogue Note
Mirza Hedayat (d. 1310/AD 1892), son of Mirza Husayn Ashtiyani and the father of Muhammad Musaddeq and a cousin of Mirza Yusif Mustawfi al-Mamalik was in charge of the Army’s finances between 1275 (AD 1858-9) and 1289 (AD 1872-3) and appointed vazir-e daftar (Finance Minister) in 1290 (AD 1873-4) and the deputy to Mirza Hasan Mustawfi al-Mamalik, son of Mirza Yusif in 1303 (AD 1885-6). Although Mirza Yusif Mustawfi al-Mamalik was Finance Minister from 1280 (AD 1863-4), Mirza Hedayat is not formally recorded as being his deputy in 1282 (AD 1865-6).
