Condition

The colours have remained strong and fresh with some very minor discoloration. On very close inspection it is just possible to see a foxmark. The work has been well preserved and the condition is very good.

Catalogue Note

Dating from c.1808 this watercolour shows a view near Dacca (now Dhaka) in modern day Bangladesh. Chinnery was staying with Sir Charles D'Oyly, the first owner of this work. D'Oyly, one of Chinnery's closest friends and a fellow freemason, was Collector of Government Customs and Town Duties based in Calcutta.
