Condition
The medium is strong and clear. However the paper has discolored somewhat which has given more prominence to the white heightening. There are two small areas of paper loss, which appear to have been caused by silver fish. The work has not been laid down. Around the extreme edges of the sheet there are the remains of the old mount. In general the work is in fair condition.

Catalogue Note
Edward Lear lived in Italy for many years (1837-1848), chiefly in Rome, but travelled constantly. The town of Bracciano, originally built to defend the area from Saracen attack, is less than twenty miles from Rome.
