Catalogue Note

This is a particularly well preserved example of a watercolour by Turner based on the drawings of John Robert Cozens. Turner executed such drawings for Dr. Thomas Monro in the 1790's. The composition is taken from a drawing by Cozens in the second Beckford Sketchbook, no. 11, which is inscribed: Pini di Solimena Col la sua villa, Aug 18.
