Condition
The medium is strong and fresh. The pastel remains clear. There is an minor area of pigment discoloration located on Lady Frances's forehead, just visible in the illustration, however, this can only be seen on very close inspection. The frame has several minor areas of gilt loss but is in generally good condition. Overall the work has been well preserved.

Catalogue Note
Georgina portrayed here with her mother later married the Reverend John Sanford of Nynehead, Somerset. This pastel is one of five Russell drew for the Morgan family which came into Lord Methuen's collection when Anna Sanford, daughter of Georgina Sanford married the second Lord Methuen.
