Provenance
According to family tradition, sold from Mrs Fitzherbert's house near The Royal Pavilion, Brighton, circa 1840, where it was acquired by the great-great-great-grandfather of the present owner and thence by descent
Condition
The canvas has been relined, stabilising old craquelure, visible throughout. Ultraviolet light reveals extensive infilling to craquelutre on the face and neck of the sitter, visible to the naked eye. Further scattered retouchings to the clothes and elsewhere. Held in a lightly decorated gilt frame with some losses to the moulding.

Anna Maria was the daughter of 1st Earl Camden. On 15th May 1739 she married Thomas Barret, 17th Lord Dacre.
