Catalogue Note
Cox first visited Haddon Hall, the Tudor seat of the Dukes of Rutland, in 1831. Over the next ten years he executed a series of drawings of the Hall and its gardens which were populated with figures in period costume. The building continued to fascinate him throughout the 1840s and he made another series of drawings which concentrated on the architecture and often omitted the figures.
