Condition
The canvas has been lined, signs of which are visible to the extreme left edge. On close inspection there are some tiny flecks of paint loss to the extreme upper edge and elsewhere. There is light cracking to the paint surface running vertically down the left edge. There are areas of minor craquelure in places. There is surface dirt in places, particularly some white spots towards the centre of the lower edge. Otherwise in good condition. Ultraviolet light reveals a patch of retouching in the upper right section possibly corresponding to a repaired tear. There is further scattered retouching to various areas of the sky, sea, lower left area and to the extreme edges. There is also some sign of heightening to the mast in the left section. Held in a simple wooden frame in fair condition.
