  • Portrait of a gentleman
  • oil on canvas
  • 90x70cm.; 35½x27½in.
Half length, seated at his writing desk, wearing a maroon coat and a white waistcoat

Condition

The canvas has been lined. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a triangular damage to the upper right hand quadrant of the canvas with associated repaint. This damage runs through the corner of the sitter's hair. A thick varnish prevents an analysis of the remainder of the painting. There are some touches of repaint to the sitter's left hand. Held in a moulded gilt wood frame.
