Condition
The canvas has been relined and is undulating in the stretcher. Scattered craquelure, particularly to the upper section. Also scattered chios to the paint along the upper edge and down the right edge, possibly corresponding to old nail holes. Ultraviolet light reveals a thick band of retouching to the lower edge, scattered spots to the figure, retouching around the figure and scattered retouching elsewhere, underneath an uneven varnish. Held in an ornate plaster gilt frame.
