Catalogue Note

Munnings' links with the late Aga Khan III have been seen in these salerooms before in Saddling 'Mahmoud', The Derby Winner 1936, which sold for $2.5 million in Sothey's New York (1st June 2000, lot 119). Mahmoud won the Derby in the record time of 2 minutes and 33.8 seconds, making the Aga Khan the only person to ever win first and second place (with Bahram taking second place).
