A Large Ottoman Lacquered Pen Box with the Tughra of Mahmud II, Turkey, Dated A.H. 1246/A.D.1830-1

body lacquered black and gold with a scrolling foliate motif including saz leaves, olive branches and garlands of tulips, on raised feet, with waisted sides, interior lacquered red, green, orange and gold with removable tray divided into three sections covering the central cavity, at one end a shelf bearing two holes for ink pots 

With the tughra of Mahmud II and the date 1246 (A.D. 1830-31).
