A fine Ottoman leather document case, Istanbul, Turkey, dated 1783

of rectangular form with a bracket-form flap mounted with fastening and an elaborate brass lock plate, the leather embroidered throughout with metal thread in a symmetrical design of a formal arabesque of flowering vines, the reverse with a coat of arms, the interior flap with 'Constantinople/ 1783'

The arms are probably those of Tassin de Mancourt, of Orléanais.
