Description
cast and turned, of deep rounded form with everted rim, on a splayed foot, the interior plain, the exterior engraved over the tinned surface with an upper calligraphic band with a nastaliq inscription on a ground of foliate scrolls, a broad frieze below depicting two figures drinking on a brick terrace flanked by cypress trees surrounded on all sides by animals of the chase, lions, jackals, hares, lynxes, deer, ibex and ongar on a ground of foliate spiralling scrolls bordered by minor bands

The call to God to bless 'The Fourteen Immortals' ending with a date 'the year (?)189' or '183' or '893' [probably 1[0]89 or 1[0]83 / A.D. 1678-9 or 1672-3]. Please note that the date could also be read [1]183, equivalent to 1769-70.
This bowl is unusually large and finely engraved. A slightly smaller bowl with comparable decoration is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (see Melikian Chirvani 1982, pp. 332-333, no. 152)
