Description
each of rectangular form, painted in black with a turquoise glaze, with scrolling stems issuing lotus palmettes alternated with foliate medallions
Catalogue Note
These tiles belong to the same group as the preceding lot attributed to fifteenth-century Tabriz. The contribution of Tabrizi tilemakers - the so-called 'Masters of Tabriz' - to the formation of the Ottoman tile industry in Bursa and elsewhere is well-known (see Raby and Atasoy 1989, pp.83-89).
