Three Safavid silk and metal thread brocade fragments, Persia,

A silk lampas fragement from the sixteenth-century of nearly identical design, although with a yellow ground is found in the Kelekian collection, and illustrated in Pope, A and P. Ackerman, A Survey of Persian Art,  vol. XI, Ashiya and New York, 1981, pl 1013B. The central motif of youths being offered dishes of pomegranates by kneeling attendants surrounded by palmettes and saz leaves is also found on a sixteenth-century lampas silk with a black ground in the Victoria and Albert Museum, and illustrated in Pope and Ackerman, pl.1015A. A fragment of identical design was sold in these rooms, 5th April 2006, lot 125.
