signed, the tapering conical form with waisted neck and slender cylindrical neck, painted with three leaf-shaped panels of stylised foliage in white on a blue ground, between green c-scroll and foliate bands, heightened in gilding, with narrow pouring spout and high kick-in base

Tip of spout possibly slightly reduced. Minor typical wear to gilding.

This form is particularly rare for Brocard and closely follows Near Eastern styles.
A Jeans-Nicolas-Alphonse Giboin (1828-1921) is recorded as a painter of glass in the Gironde in France. Little is known of his work and it has been previously been presumed that he began working on glass circa 1886 (Carolus Hartmann, Glasmarkenlexicon, p.606). However, although a member of the army and an officer on the Mexico Expedition in 1865, he returned to France in 1867. It is possible that at some point in the 1860s, prior to his return to the army in 1870, that he learnt the enamelling art from Brocard.
