Ink, gouache and gold on paper, the muhaqqaq, thuluth and naskhi calligraphy written in black ink and surrounded by fine floral illumination in colours and gold, wide border of gold scrolling foliate motifs on cream paper, framed

Catalogue Note
The calligrapher is unrecorded in any of the secondary sources listing known Ottoman practitioners, suggesting strongly that it is the work of an Egyptian scribe. The outstanding quality of the calligraphy suggests that it was commissioned by or for Muhammad 'Ali Pasha (1805-48) or a member of the khedival family in Cairo; as such it is an extremely rare and interesting piece.
