The use of alternating single floral sprays is a decorative feature of wares from the last quarter of the sixteenth century.  A jug in the Écouen Musée National de la Renaissance illustrated in Denny 2004, p.174, displays a similar major and minor frieze of alternating saz and hyacinth sprays and a jug in the collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (see Lisbon 1963, no.41) has similar upright tulip stems alongside prunus branches.
