Description
composed of a central circular section flanked by rectangular openwork plaques with rounded ends, decorated with gems and green, blue and white enamel with a central plumed shield motif flanked by a pair of scrolling foliate designs
This is an extremely rare example of early Ottoman enamel work. A very small group of belt buckles decorated in this extravagant manner are known to exist. One is in the Topkapi Saray Collection and another in the Benaki Museum (Ballian 1992, p.96-97, no.53)

overall in good condition, most gems intact some with minor chips and abrasions, rubbing to blue and green enamelling, small losses to openwork of righthand plaque and repair and additions to the hinge fitting on reverse, as viewed
