Description

the steel barrels cut with a sighting flat and decorated with gilt cartouches enclosing palmettes and c-scrolls, the wooden stocks decorated with silver facings inlaid with bud-shaped corals, silver capped wood ramrods, the locks with applied gilt and silver floral scrolls, pommel chased and embossed with foliate designs in relief

minor pitting and patination to barrels and locks, small losses to corals with associated repair, as viewed

Catalogue Note

An almost identical pair of pistols is illustrated in Missillier and Ricketts 1988, p. 49, no.69.  A further coral set signed 'muhammad' and dated A.H. 1147 / A.D. 1736 was sold at Tajan, Arts d'Orient, Paris, 4 June 2007, lot 8.
