Condition
Ormolu clean and in good condition; marble base in good condition with a few tiny chips to edge. Figures with some real and some applied patination; pin pricks holes in casting, one arm with small casting flaw.

Catalogue Note
Based upon a French design by Charles Percier in the Louvre (RF30630) and originally conceived as a drawing for console supports (illustrated Hans Ottomeyer and Peter Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, vol. I, Munich, 1986, p. 336, fig. 3.5.4), the present candelabra are of Italian rather than French manufacture. Another similar, although larger pair of Neapolitan manufacture, is at the Reggia di Caserta in the sala di Marte (see Chiara Garzya, Interni Neoclassici a Napoli, Naples, 1978, ill. XVI).
