Description

  • height 49 in.; width 35 1/4 in.; depth 17 1/2 in.
  • 124 cm; 89 cm; 44 cm
the four-faced cabinet, with hinged doors, decorated in takamaki-e and nashiji with peonies, cherry blossoming trees, peacock and peahen, the interior containing seven small and large drawers, the drawers and interior of the doors decorated in scattered poem cards in gold hiramaki-e on a gold nashiji ground, the sides decorated with stylized flowers, with ornate gilt metal mounts chiseled with leaves, on  a stand with console shaped legs.

Condition

Right panel (exterior) upper left has a crack (about 2in), the border nashiji has a few small dents and restored. Right door (inside) overall interior has a wonderful lacquer work which is hard to see from the catalogue illustration. But right door interior has some dents from the metal handles (probably hit when the drawers accidentally moved forward inside). Left panel (exterior) upper left corner border has an old dent (approx 4cm x 5mm). Left door (Inside) has a three vertical cracks (about 5in, 3in, 10in each). Exterior top and sides are generally in good condition except for the right side (just below the metal handle) has an old invisible scratch (about 7in long). The stand - gold borders have some old dents. This lot will be offered without reserve.
