Good condition. Unlined. Under UV: Heavy varnish fluoresces. Inpainting to address frame abrasion along left edge, upper right edge, and along right edge. This lot will be offered without reserve.

Catalogue Note

Born in Würzburg in 1834, Ferdinand Knab specialized in landscape painting and as a decorator. He was a pupil of Ramberg, Kirchner and Piloty. He traveled to Italy and was appointed court painter to Ludwig II of Bavaria. He decorated the Linderhoff Palace, the Royal Palace in Munich, and the winter garden of Munich.
