Catalogue Note

The guilloche motif and the strong neoclassical elements incorporated in the present mirror suggest a Roman provenance.  These elements can be compared with models produced for Villa Borghese under the commission of principe Marcantonio Borghese.  See also as a comparison for the type of carving (guilloche, winged mask, square design, garlands), a Roman chair in the Villa Borghese, Rome (E.Colle, Il Mobile Neoclassico in Italia, Milano, 2005, page 153).
