Condition

Minor wear and slight tarnishing to the brass plates. The pedestal mounts to the fluted columnar supports are loose and some are missing nails to keep them in place. Minor hairline cracks to the veneer consistent with age. The top mounts to the feet are possible associations. Previously with a panelled back. In overall very good conditon, attractive model. This lot will be offered without reserve.

A comparable console of larger form was delivered to the Château de Fontainebleau for the appartement du Pape  in 1804, see Jean-Pierre Samoyault, Fontainebleau, Musée National du Château, catalogue des collections de mobilier 3, Meubles entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 2004, p. 73, fig. 6.  Another larger, of almost identical design, was also delivered to Fontainebleau in 1804 for the antichambre du cardinal Caprara, illustrated, op.cit. p. 348, fig. 278.
