Catalogue Note

The carving on the cresting is characteristic of the Piedmontese tradition. A smiliar example is illustrated in V. Viale, Mostra dell Barocco Piemontese, vol. III, Turin, 1963, pl. 264. Wood-carving in Piedmont reached its peak in the late 18th century, with artists such as Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo. He along with other master carvers were called upon for the great houses and palaces of and around Turin.
