Catalogue Note

Only a very limited number of Venetian beds have survived, therefore, even if partially redecorated, this bed represents a rare example in the Venetian furniture repertory. Neoclassical Venetian furniture, which frequently incorporated a naively ribboned profile medallion as part of the decoration, as on the present example, was also rarely produced due to the fact that the rococo forms, for which Venice was famous, were still much in fashion and appreciated in the lagoon until the end of the 18th century.
