Restorations to tthe veneer along the back of the top rails. Restoration to the arm of one of the marquises. Very minor dents along the edges of the front legs, however this is hardly noticeable.

The Perregaux family, originally from Switzerland, was one of the most influential banking families along with the Staël and Gibert, who helped finance Napoleon's rise to power.

The quality and style of this suite can be compared with the production of  Jean-Baptiste-Bernard Demay (1758-1848) and of the Jacob Frères (active 1796-1803).   An armchair of similar design is illustrated in Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Le mobilier français du XIXe siècle, Paris, 2000, p. 158.

This and the following lots were probably part of a larger suite commissioned for the Parisian residence of the Perregaux family in the newly fashionable district around the Champs-Elysées. The suite probably moved to the château de Champigny sur Yonne, the family's country estate, during the course of the 19th century.
