A Restauration amboyna and mahogany fauteuil de bureau in the manner of Alphonse Giroux
circa 1825

Catalogue Note

The marquetry decoration of this chair can be compared with the fauteuil reputedly made for the duc de Bordeaux in 1828 by the firm of Giroux & Cie. and illustrated in Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Les Ebénistes du XIXe siècle, Paris, 1984, p. 226.
The firm of A. Giroux & Cie. was founded in 1799 by François-Simon-Alphonse Giroux at 7 rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré, and the firm continued under the supervision of his two sons, who mainly sold luxury items. Under the Restauration, the firm also produced pieces of furniture.
