Catalogue Note

This mirror with its charming naive carving on the sides with Piranesi inspired motifs and neo-classical profile medallions amply demonstrates the Sicilian tendency to assimilate styles of the different regions in Italy in Sicilian furnishings and interiors. This mirror reflects the neo-classical mirrors of Rome, Piedmont and Tuscany, although the carving is somewhat less refined. The trelliswork rather naively incised on the background enclosing a dot motif is another feature frequently found on Sicilian furniture.
