Catalogue Note

Krafft was the son of a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Stockholm. During his stay in Paris, from 1796 to 1806, he studied under David. Upon his return to Sweden, Krafft painted battle and historical scenes as well as portraits. In 1828 his most important commission was a series of paintings depicting the coronation of Bernadotte, who assumed the name of King Karl XIV Johan in 1818.
