from the right rounded end of a strigillated sarcophagus, boldly carved in relief with the figure of a lion attacking a hoofed animal, the details extensively drilled.

Provenance

from the garden of a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, most likely from a 19th Century collection

surface weathered, some cracks, small chips, ancient and modern
