  • A Cypriot Bichrome-Ware Terracotta Horse and Rider
  • Height 9 5/8 in. 24.5 cm.
the horse of attenuated form with triangular legs, hooked tail, long neck, and forward-pointing crested mane, the rider clasping the mane with both hands and gazing up, the details in black and red pigment.

Provenance

acquired in 1975, probably in Switzerland

Condition

Very good, minor losses to paint, front half of head of horse of slightly different color clay yet does not fluoresce under UV light
