- A Marble Torso of Apollo or Dionysos
- Height 9 3/4 in. 24.8 cm.
based on an original by Praxiteles, his slender body standing with the weight on the right leg, navel incised, his hair falling in two long voluted wavy strands in front of the shoulders, and a wavy rectangular plait behind, fragmentary tenons on each hip.
Provenance
estate of Professor Bernhard Kommel, Cambridge, Massachusetts, reputed to have been acquired in Libya circa 1954 (Sotheby's, New York, December 2nd, 1988, no. 86, illus.)
Condition
good and as shown in photos, note chips and abrasions and areas of incrutation remaining on back, break at back of base of proper left leg is of relatively modern origin, and there is a small repair there
