Description

  • An Apulian Red-Figured Amphora, attributed to the Painter of Vienna 751
  • Height 17 1/2 in. 44.5 cm.
decorated in front with a seated nude youth holding a patera and branch and a standing woman holding a wreath and tympanon, a plant between them, the reverse painted with two draped youths, encircling wave pattern below the scenes, palmettes in the handle zones, tongues on the neck, palmettes below the rim, and a white-painted wreath around the mouth, other details in added yellow and white.

Very good, area of misfiring and nicks to black glaze in one handle zone and around right-hand draped youth on reverse
