Description

  • A Marble Funerary Relief, Asia Minor
  • 17 1/2 by 9 3/4 by 4 in. 44.5 by 24.8 by 10.2 cm.
carved in high relief with the figure of a woman in the guise of Pudicitia lifting her veil with her right hand, and wearing a chiton and enveloping himation, her hair arranged in a nodus above her forehead, a snake entwined around a tree at right, the upper register carved in low relief with a horse protome, a herm, and the figure of a child; remains of red and blue-green pigment.

very good and as shown, note fresh minor chips to nodus, horse head, and hand of child, minor nicks and scratches elsewhere, thin layer of incrustation overall
