Description

  • Three Faience Objects
  • Heights 2 3/16 , 2 3/8 , and, from modern base, 3 1/4 in. 5.5, 6, and 8.3 cm
comprising a Rhodian aryballos in the form of a hedgehog standing on a base, the body molded with a grid pattern imitating spines, a Rhodian aryballos of globular form with body molded in relief with a rosette on the base and a lattice design on the sides, both vessels with details painted in black, and an Egyptian figure of the Horus Falcon standing on a rectangular base and wearing the Crown of Upper Egypt.

Condition

1st aryballos: nose chipped, rim chipped around most of perimeter, crest above forehead mostly missing; 2nd aryballos: most of glaze has flaked away exposing core material except on top of rim and on base where areas of bright glaze are preserved, most of rim is chipped away; falcon: large chip on one side of base, tip of wings broken off, large chip on side of crown not shown
