Description

  • A Large Byzantine Bronze Steelyard Beam
  • Length 46 3/4 in. 118.7 cm.
with long rod of lozenge-shaped section graduated with letters of the Greek alphabet on each facet and plate of rectangular section peaked and pierced on opposite sides for attachment of two missing suspension hooks, a line of Greek inscription punched on one side reading "+Mari(a)+Thoma(s)," each terminal in the form of a boar's head with gaping jaws, one emerging from an ornamental base punched with figures of birds.
