Description

  • Three Apulian Pottery Vessels
  • Heights 8 7/8, 11, and 8 3/4 in. 22.5, 27.9, and 22.5 cm.
comprising a Peucetian krater of biconical form with flaring rim and twin stirrup handles, the body painted in brown on each side with a swastika and other geometric motifs, a Daunian jar with broad pyriform body, wide everted rim and high voluted strap handle, the body decorated with a band of undulating vine between encircling straight and wavy bands, laurel wreath on the handle, swastikas on the rim, and a late-Canosan double situla with centrally ribbed handle, the bodies each painted with registers of geometric motifs, a wave pattern, a dolphin and other decorations, traces of red and pink pigment.

Condition

generally good, first with minor chips and abrasions to paint, second with minor chips, abrasions, scratches, and areas of incrustation, decoration on rim mostly worn off, third with black stains in various areas, minor chips including a relatively fresh on e on top of one rim
